A Buncha "F" Words

Was that title shocking? I hope so because I like to throw in a little shock value every now and again. Keeps things fresh.

I got this FUN meme from Gretchen at Jewels In My Crown.

Rules: If you want to play, leave a comment on this post, and I’ll assign you a letter. You write about ten things you love that begin with your assigned letter, and post it at your place. When people comment on your list, you give them a letter, and the chain continues on and on…

Gretchen gave me the letter F.

FAITH – This is my most favorite thing of all, not just my favorite F thing. Without my faith I don’t think the rest of the F things, or any other letter things, would be quite as brilliant to me.

FAMILY – This is my second most favorite thing of all, and not just because it starts with F.

FRIENDS – This is almost as good as the first two!

FUR – As in “Sookie’s fur is so soft,” not, “I love my fur coat,” or “I need to shave the fur off my legs.”

FRAPPUCCINOS – Of the vanilla, mocha or coffee variety.

FOO FIGHTERS – This may surprise a lot of you, but I do love this band.

FUZZY BLANKETS – I especially love a warm, fuzzy blanket to wrap up in when the temps outside are frigid like they are now.

FUN – Who doesn’t like to have fun??

FOREIGN TRAVEL – My foreign travel is limited to Mexico and the Caribbean, but I really hope to remedy that some day. I’m counting on Scotland in four and a half more years and I would love to travel all over Europe.

FOOD – One look at me and you know just how much I love food.

So who wants a letter??

Fun Little Meme

A couple weeks ago Cheryl at Life with Cheryl tagged me for this fun little meme. Apparently I had a two-week senior moment because I totally forgot about it until last night. So without further ado, here we go…

Ten years ago I was:

Loving life! Todd and I had been married ten years, Taylor was 6 and Katie was 4. What incredibly fun ages! Taylor was in 1st grade and Katie was in preschool along with several of my friends’ kids. Every Thursday we would take our kids to preschool and then meet at the cute little coffee shop around the corner. It got to where the people who worked there knew what we were going to order. Good times. In fact, some of the best times. (Wouldn’t you agree Rhonda, Beth, Shelly, Kim — who am I missing??)

Five things on today’s To Do List:

1. Laundry. (Just like Cheryl said, why is this ALWAYS on my daily list?)

2. Dust the first floor, not to be confused with the basement which is really the first floor.

3. Vacuum the first floor (see #2 for clarification) and the stairs.

4. Sweep and mop the kitchen.

5. Work on the CLEAR website.

A snack I enjoy:

Peanut M&Ms.

Things I would do if I were a millionaire:

* Give more to church
* Support my beloved charities more
* Support other charities I like but can’t afford to right now
* Decorate my house exactly the way I want to
* Do a little remodeling to the house
* Travel a LOT

Places I have lived:

* SE Pennsylvania
* Central Arkansas
* Las Cruces, New Mexico
* Torrance, California

- That’s the West, the Southwest, The South and the East. While I’d love to hit every region, I think I’d rather just stay put now.

Now who should I tag? I’m going to say everybody because I’d love to know these things about all of you! So if you do this meme please let me know.

Six Word Memoir Meme

I was tagged by Seaspray, who was tagged by WhiteCoat Rants, to do this meme. I’ve seen this one around and I always find it interesting. But reducing an entire life into six words is no easy feat. So I’m doing a “last three years memoir”.

SURGERY

POISON

BALD

LIFE

JOY

HAIR!!

Here are the rules:

1. Write your own six word memoir.
2. Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration if you want.
3. Link to the person that tagged you in your post and to the original post if possible so we can track it as it travels across the blogosphere
4. Tag at least five more blogs with links.
5. Leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play.

So I tag Becky, Shauna, Deb, Katybug, HisGirl and Sing 4 Joy

Book Meme

Katybug at Watercooler Wisdom tagged me for this fun book meme. She’s changed the rules ever so slightly and I’m going to play along.

1. Grab the book you are currently reading and turn to p. 123
2. Go to the 5th sentence
3. Post the next 3 sentences
4. Tell the name of the book and author
5. Tag 5 others

So here I go:

Had the news of the Guise attack reached them? They bowed, hats in hand.

“Andelot.”

The book I’m currently reading is Written on Silk by Linda Lee Chaikin. It’s the second in the Silk House series and what a fabulous series it is. The main character of the series, Rachelle, is a dressmaker who has been commanded to Catherine d’Medici’s court to make dresses for the Princess Marguerite. But Rachelle is a Huguenot and Catherine is plotting with the Guise brothers in the beginnings of the French inquisition.

I’m thoroughly enjoying the series. There’s intrigue, suspense, murder, romance and quite a bit of history. Good stuff, Maynard.

***

The original rules of this meme say to grab the book closest to you so I’m going to do that, too.

The Old Testament philosopher would have no idea how decadent and ridiculous the trash would have gotten 2,500 years later, but he could have related well to U2′s interaction with it. He could have found only empathy with the band’s interrogation of the meaninglessness of the horizontal and its constant probing for something else – the search for hope that might be found above the sun to make sense of all the nonsense below it. As U2 went for a ride along the surface of things, Bono confessed that his heart was where it has always been, but his head was caught in between.

The book is Walk On – the Spiritual Journey of U2. Todd’s been reading it and from what I understand from him and others, it’s very good. Very interesting.

***

I’m not going to tag anyone, but please feel free to do this fun meme if you haven’t already. Just be sure to let me know you did it!

Seven Things About Me

I was tagged by Becky back in October to list seven random things about me. So as not to repeat myself I had to go back and read this post and this post. I’m running out of things to write about me. I could ask Todd, but you can see how well that turned out in this post. Hm. On second thought, he did say some pretty nice things…

But I’ve been trying to come up with some random things so I’ll give it a go.

1. When the hair in a certain spot on the top of my head is pulled it makes me sneeze. Todd used to come up behind me and grab a fistful of hair, trying to make me sneeze. I’m sure he looked like a caveman until I would blow and he would laugh like a little boy.

2. Instead of saying “situation” like a normal person, I have a habit of saying “sitiation” as in, Breaker one-four, breaker one-four. We got us a sitiation. It’s open season for Smokey Bear and the chicken coop’s full of portable barnyards.

3. About a month before I turned 15 both of my sisters delivered baby boys a couple days of each other. One in Pecos, Texas and the other in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Mom hopped on a Greyhound bus and went south to help with the newborns. When my friends, Cindy and Maureen, and I got home from school one day I was struck with a brilliant idea. Mom was two or three states away, Dad was at work and the keys to the station wagon were sitting on the console in the entry way. So I ran in, grabbed the keys and we jumped in the car for a little joy ride. Very little. Our house was the second from the corner of a moderately busy street. We drove around the half block and when we came back to the house there was a police car facing us on the other side of the intersection. Cindy and Maureen freaked out and jumped to the floor, something I’ve never understood. I had to pull into the corner house’s driveway, back out and then pull in front of our house so Dad wouldn’t realize it had been moved. My heart was beating so hard I’m sure my shirt was pulsating, but I got out of the car very calmly, walked up to the house and let myself in. Cindy and Maureen stayed in the car until the police car left. Wimps! Mom and Dad never found out until I was about 18 and told them about it. By that time it didn’t seem like such a smart idea anymore.

4. I can whistle extremely loud using my fingers. This talent comes in very handy. It’s not very lady like, but it serves a great purpose.

5. I love doing home improvement projects. If I had all the time and most of the money in the world I would buy an old historical home and do most of the fixing up myself. Todd doesn’t share my enthusiasm – though he’s very good at a lot of stuff – so I usually take on the big projects when he’s on a business trip. He’s got a couple trips coming up…

6. I can count to 100 in Japanese. If I could remember the number for 100 I would be able to count to 1000. I can also say a few random words in Japanese like toilet and potty. I don’t know enough to make a sentence, but at least I can cover the very basics.

7. I worked for a State Farm agent when I was a senior in high school. One of the clients was impressed enough with my phone skills that he offered me a job with a fairly young company he was a VP with. It would require me to move to Phoenix which was fine with me because I love Scottsdale and had imagined me living there for years. But I was still five months away from being 18 when I graduated from school and I already had college plans. The company was Southwest Airlines.

That’s all I got right now.

I’m supposed to tag seven more people, but I’ve lost track of who has and who hasn’t done this meme. So instead I’m tagging anyone who would like to do this. Please let me know if you do it!

Book Meme

I was tagged for a fun book meme by a sort-of-new-to-me blogger friend and fellow breast cancer survivor, Sherry at Sage and Thyme. So here we go…

TOTAL # OF BOOKS

I couldn’t possibly say how many books I’ve read so far in my lifetime, but I can say how many books I’ve read so far this year. And last year. I started keeping a reading log in 2006 and it’s fun to see how much I’ve read, what I’ve read and what I thought about the book.

I read a total of 44 books last year which is pretty pitiful. Before chemo I probably averaged about 8 books a month. Forty-four books in a year is less than half of that. I’ve only completed 35 books so far this year. Maybe next year will be better.

LAST BOOK READ

I just finished Revealed by Tamara Alexander. It’s the second in the Fountain Creek Trilogy, a wonderful inspirational romance series. I put Tamara Alexander in the edgy category along with some of my other favorite inspirational authors – Deeanne Gist, Liz Curtis Higgs and Francine Rivers.

Here’s the back blurb:

Annabelle Grayson has been given a second chance at life, but she can’t claim it with the cloud of her past hanging over her in Willow Springs. After her husband dies, she advertises for a trail guide to accompany her to land waiting for her in Idaho–and a most unlikely candidate applies for the job.

Matthew Taylor is a man on the run, with consequences of past mistakes pursuing him at every turn. Meeting Annabelle Grayson the first time was unpleasant enough, but when she crosses his path again, her presence in his life–and what she reveals–is devastating. If given a single wish, Matthew would turn back time and right a grievous wrong. If given a second wish, he would make Annabelle Grayson pay.

Just a little more info – Annabelle had been a prostitute in Willow Springs. Matthew Taylor would never darken the door of a brothel and held the women inside in much contempt. There’s much more to tell, but that might ruin it for you if you decide to read it. I can’t emphasize what a great series it is enough.

LAST BOOK(S) BOUGHT

Clapton – The Autobiography by Eric Clapton (for Todd)

Second Guessing God – Hanging on When You Can’t See His Plan by Brian Jones (the pastor at our church)

Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott (a book about writing non-fiction as recommended to me by Brian Jones)

FIVE MEANINGFUL BOOKS

Only five?? This is so difficult for me. I read mostly fiction and I wouldn’t say they’re meaningful as in life-changing. But the books (or series) I’m choosing have stirred my emotions or piqued my curiosity about historical events or, well, some of them have made me think about how I would respond to a similar situation. There are several more I could list, but I’ll leave it at five.

Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon – I fought starting this series because of the time travel aspect, but when I finally gave in I was so glad. These books are so rich in historical detail and I’ve learned so much from them. (I do my own research to confirm what I’m learning – just so you know)

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers – Oh my goodness. This book was one of the most difficult books I’ve ever read. But what a great story about mercy and love.

Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott Odell – I read this book in the fourth grade and it was the first time I realized I could actually learn something from reading a good story. I think this is where my love for historical fiction started, though it was several years before I really got into reading.

The Lowlands of Scotland series by Liz Curtis Higgs – This is a trilogy based on the story of Jacob, Leah and Rachel in Genesis. Liz did a phenomenal job of translating a bible story thousands of years old into a more “modern” telling (1788). I read it in tandem with my Bible to see where she was going to go next. Still, she managed to surprise me.

A Rose in Winter by Kathleen Woodiwiss – This was my first romance novel ever. I started really enjoying reading when I was in high school. I remember reading my dad’s Sidney Sheldon books and then a couple Robin Cook’s and thinking I was much too intelligent and savvy to read a romance. PULEEZE! Can you say “snob”? I joined Doubleday Book Club and forgot to send the card in on time. I received “A Rose in Winter” and set it aside in much disgust. Several months later I read the book and I loved the story! It was still a long time after that before I started reading romance on a regular basis, but I credit this book for pointing me in the right direction. My tastes in romance have changed drastically over the last *cough*ty years, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for this particular book.

FIVE PEOPLE TO TAG

Because I’m so behind in my memes I’m not going to tag anyone. However, this is a great meme and I know some of you are mad crazy readers. So if you decide to do this please let me know!

middle name meme

Jodie Lee at Throw the Book at Me tagged me for the Middle Name Meme back in August. I’m finally getting around to posting it.

Here are the rules:

1. You have to post these rules before you give the facts.

2. Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of their middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had.

3. When you are tagged you need to write your own blog post containing your own middle name game facts.

4. At the end of your blog post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

I had a hard time with this one. Every word I came up with made me sound either egomaniacal or idiotic. Then I made the mistake of asking Todd and Taylor for a couple words to describe me. I didn’t use any of them.

So after much hemming and hawing, here’s my middle name:

D – Devoted: While I do possess several character flaws I will NOT be admitting to any time soon, I am totally devoted. I’m devoted to God – I owe Him everything. I’m devoted to Todd – he’s the other half of my whole. I’m devoted to my kids – they keep me young.

I – Indomitable: This isn’t a word I would have used to describe me a few years ago. But it does describe my attitude while dealing with breast cancer. I absolutely refused to let it get the best of me. I was incapable of being overcome, subdued, or vanquished (American Heritage Dictionary). Funny thing – most of the women I know who have had to deal with this same disease could be described the very same way.

A – Agreeable: For the most part I’m pretty easy going and agreeable. In fact I’ve been known to be rather door-matish. There are times when I insist I have my way if it’s something very important to me. But most things, unless they’re the big things in life, aren’t so important to me.

N – Nutty: Trying to find two good words that start with “N” is not easy. Too bad for me I finally figured out I had two Ns in my middle name when I was in high school. I found N-words like nerd and nincompoop, numbskull and ninny. I’m sure there are several people who would call me any one of those names on a regular basis. But this is my blog and I refuse to let you know the real me. So I’m going with Nutty for my first word. I think this is self explanatory.

N – Noodge: The dictionary describes “noodge” this way – One who persistently pesters, annoys, or complains. I don’t complain much, it’s possible that I annoy, but I definitely pester. It’s the highlight of my life.

E – Enthusiastic: When I’m telling a story I become very animated – arms flailing, facial expressions, the whole bit.

I’m going to bend the rules and pass this meme on to three people instead of six. The three I choose are:

Shauna at The Coffee Stop
Becky at Stuck in Frump, Striving for Fab
Jen at Life on the Mountain

8 Things About Me According to Todd

Here it is, the long awaited list from Todd. For those of you who missed his response to my rules – this is what he had to say:

Ok Everyone….I have been putting some serious thought behind this endeavor. It might be a little long; it definitely will not have EVERYTHING that I really want in it due to the blasted RULES. I also have to find someway to keep Jen from editing it to death before posting it….I used to be pretty persuasive if I had the right amount of Peanut M&M’s, Coke and the promise of a little something “extra” later…but that does not seem to work anymore….

Stay tuned….I am hoping for late next week.

Todd (aka – DH)

When I saw the email with the attachment from him (he’s on a business trip) I was a little frightened. Nobody knows me better and there are a multitude of less than wonderful things he could say about me. And frankly only a handful of pretty good things he could say about me.

But after reading the list I’ve decided that he is so very biased AND delusional and I wouldn’t want him any other way. Heaven forbid the scales ever fall off his eyes!

His words are in orange and any comments I may have are in red. I didn’t edit anything he wrote, but there are some places I must defend myself! Without further ado, here ya go.

Here are the 8 things about my lovely, ever so popular, blogger wife

1. She is the strongest person I have ever met and is my Rock.
With all that she has been through with cancer, chemo, reconstruction, the multitude of side-effects from the chemo, putting up with me, putting up with the kids, and many other things…….she has a cast-iron will and intestinal fortitude that I admire greatly. She is, and has always been, my rock and best friend. We all just do what we have to do. And I feel the same about Todd.

2. She is a very Godly woman and a blessing to others.
Jen’s faith is so very strong, even when she does not think it is. She is always thinking that she is not either spiritual enough or in-touch with God enough when in actuality she is so in touch with God at all times that it is inspiring to me and others. She is always willing, whether she feels good or not, to let God use her to bless others. I will not ever forget when we found out that she had cancer. She sent out an email to her friends to tell them and asked that nobody call or come over. One of her close friends called (Candy) and I answered the phone to hear her crying hysterically. I tried to calm her down a little before I gave the phone to Jen thinking that a hysterical person on the phone was the last thing she needed. Once I got Candy calmed down, I handed Jen the phone and as soon as she started talking I heard Candy crying again. Jen just sat there and talked to her……and said, “It is OK Candy, I am here for you”. Can you believe that…..what a woman!!
And then Candy and I burst out laughing.

3. She is a super wife and mother.
Jen and I are soul-mates……there is no doubt about that. She is also the only one that could even possibly put up with me. She is my sounding board and is not afraid to give me honest answers even when I do not want to hear them. She is a wonderful mother and warm-hearted to the core…….not to say that she cannot work on her sympathy for us when we get sick…that could use a lot of work. I cannot imagine my life without Jen and the kids.
I admit it. I’m very low on the compassion scale.

4. She is ABSOLUTELY Nuts!
As I am sure all of you have been able to tell, Jen is quite humorous, even when it becomes extremely annoying. She seems to be able to find the humor in everything…..and quite often does. You all just get to read about it…..I have to live with her! The “Rules” will not allow me to expand on her craziness, but suffice it to say that I could tell some stories that would have you rolling on the floor. When we were first dating, you could give her a few cans of Coca-Cola and a bag of peanut M&M’s and sit back and enjoy the show. She is very entertaining. By the way, anytime she says, “Surely, I do not know what you are talking about”….what she really means is that she knows EXACTLY what you are talking about. God love her, she is all mine.
I’m sure I don’t know what he’s talking about.

5. She is a MAJOR procrastinator.
To hear her mom tell it, she is just like her dad. I honestly think her dad gets a bad rap and has for years. Sometimes I call her Scarlet since she will surely get to it tomorrow. Why should she do it today, it will still be there tomorrow…..uuugghhhhh!!!!! For those of you out there that agree with her….please keep it to yourself. There are times when I will see something on the floor that she dropped or left or whatever, and I will just let it sit there to see how long it takes before it gets picked up…..once again the “Rules” do not allow me to tell you the answer!!
I’m sure I don’t know what he’s talking about.

6. She is an excellent writer with an overactive imagination.
I think my wife is an excellent writer…plain and simple. Writing is something she has always had a love for and for the last few years has actually been working on it. She has written a book or two, but has not quite finished either (please see #5). Writing her Blog has been very helpful to her and I would like to thank all of you out there for the nice things you have said to her over time. She is a really humble person and does not think herself worthy of praise of any kind, but I know that deep down, she really enjoys the comments you all leave. It is my sincere prayer that she gets published someday so that she will be an authentic “Author” which has been a dream for her for sometime now. She has been working on a book about the experience that she has just gone through with cancer and moving to PA which I feel is very therapeutic for her, she just needs to finish it. I know that she is more than capable…..I just need to keep at her to overcome #5.
I’ll worry about that tomorrow. JUST KIDDING! There’s a lot I could say here, but I’m not going to. He’s right, though. I love, love, LOVE all the very kind comments you people leave me.

7. She has a wonderful personality.
It brings me so much pleasure to sit back and watch Jen shine when she is in a group setting. She is so special. She makes people feel good by just being with them. She is a great conversationalist and has a killer smile. I think of some lyrics from Elton John’s song “Tiny Dancer, ….pretty eyes…..pirate smile…she marries a music man….” While I only play acoustic guitar, I kind of am a music man….she does have very pretty eyes and definitely a pirate smile. Simply put, Jen lights up a room when she enters…….and it is a joy to see.
Delusional. But if he wants to think this who am I to argue??

8. She has AWESOME friends.
Jennifer has always been one to have lots of friends. She has old friends and new friends, physical friends and cyber friends…..I am pretty sure that she has imaginary friends as well. As she has been a help to so many of her friends, in her hour of need, they have been there for her to the fullest. You all know who you are and I want to thank each and every one of you. Some I have met, others I have heard A LOT about, but I am thankful for all of you. Thank you for giving her encouragement when she needed it, straight truth when it was required, assistance when the situation called for it, love when she felt lonely, and guidance when she was unsure. From the bottom of my heart…I love each and every one of you!
This one is absolutely, unequivocally true. I have the best friends in the world!!

Memes and Awards

Frannie Farmer tagged me to post 7 random facts about me. You would think this is easy as my entire life seems random, but it’s not as simple as it sounds. So I’m going to have to give this some thought.

*****

Pokey Puppy bestowed a Rockin’ Blogger award on me, too.

Thank you, Pokey! I’m honored you think so! It’s hard to pick just five bloggers to pass this on to, but I’ll let you know who I chose later.

*****

And finally, Anne tagged me for “8 Things About Me According To (in my case) Todd”. I have to admit this meme gives me pause. I’d thought about not telling him and making up my own very flattering list. He doesn’t read my blog all the time and I thought maybe, just maybe, he’d miss the post all together. But with the way my luck runs… well, most of you have seen how things have been going for me.

So it was with significant trepidation that I told him about this meme. You should have seen the unholy gleam in his eye. Scary! So I decided he needed ground rules:

1. My mother and aunt and others who think of me as “Little Jenni” read this blog. No “naughty” stories.

2. He’s gained the cyber-reputation as being a great guy. And he is. But I would hate for him to ruin others’ perception of him if he were to say something less than nice about me. Not that there is anything less than nice to say about me, but you know how it is for people who have lived together for a while.

3. I have a cyber-image to maintain. I would be most displeased if he were to cast a pall over it, regardless of how bogus said image is.

4. I must appear charming, witty and sweet; the faultless wife and mother, perfect in every way without appearing too Stepfordish.

5. I reserve the right to edit his list if I deem the list to violate any of the above-mentioned rules.

He asked if he could have a little while to think about this list and I told him that would be fine.

“Is it okay if I work on the list while I’m on my business trip next week?”

I told him sure. And do you know what my great guy of a husband said?

“Good because I think nicer things about you when I’m somewhere else.”

What can I say? It sounds like a snarky comment I would make.

8 Facts or Habits

I’ve been tagged by April at For His Glory and My Good and Colorado Writer at Adventures in Writing to list 8 facts/habits about myself. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

I asked Todd for some of my habits and he came up with about a bajillion, none of them favorable. I have an image to maintain, even if it is false, which means I can’t list those.

So without further ado, here are 8 facts about me and/or habits of mine:

1. I would rather scrub toilets than unload the dishwasher. Which is why unloading the dishwasher is a daily chore of a kid in my house.

2. When I took the career test in high school it said I should be either an architect or a cruise director. We lived close to San Pedro where the Princess Cruise Line (Love Boat) departed and I looked into the cruise director thing. I fancied myself a younger version of Julie McCoy. I don’t know if they still do it the same way, but in the early ‘80s the entire staff of the ship, except for the officers and sailors, had to double as the entertainment. The thought of getting up in front of all those people and singing was more than I could bear. Mom and Dad were fairly encouraging, though I think it was because they saw free cruises in their future. I’m sure they were a little disappointed when I didn’t pursue this line of work, but they had the good grace not to let me know.

3. I have Radio Station ADD. That’s when I’m driving in my car, listening to a great song on the radio, but I think there might be a better one on a different station, so I surf all the stations looking for the best song. Typically it was the one I was originally listening to, but when I get back there it’s over.

4. Before I got married I worked for a law firm in Rolling Hills, California. Rolling Hills is a very posh section of Southwest Los Angeles County – beautiful horse farms, mansions on the cliffs overlooking the ocean, etc. The office next to ours was Chuck Norris’ production company pre-Walker, Texas Ranger. Chuck Norris is not a big man, but his body guard/chauffeur is humongous! About the size of a door.

5. Taylor says when I get excited about something I fist my hands and do a quick knuckle clap in front of my chest – I don’t know how to explain it. Maybe if I add “Goody, goody, gumdrop” you can picture it better.

6. I had my tonsils out when I was 17 and I hemorrhaged. They had to put me back under to cauterize the small vessel that was squirting blood into my mouth and down into my stomach. I knew there was something wrong when I started coming to in the recovery room. The nurse kept saying it was normal post-operative bleeding, but when I’d filled my second or third tray with blood she decided to call the doctor. He poked a little vacuum thing down in my throat to see what was going on and I have an extremely sensitive gag reflex. It looked like something out of a horror movie, but I think it served the doctor right for missing that little vein. While it seemed like I’d bled gallons, it wasn’t even enough to make me anemic. It just sounds so dramatic to say I hemorrhaged and I’m all about the drama.

7. Todd says I have a habit of leaving dryer sheets on the floor on his side of the bed, but I don’t think that’s a habit. It’s just something that happens and I have no control over it. Other than to walk around the bed and pick them up, but I never think about it. You know – out of sight, out of mind.

8. When Todd and I were first married – and for a long time after – I had a horrible habit of holding things in. When he would do something that bothered me I’d wonder if it was that big of a deal and not say anything because I didn’t want to make mountains out of molehills. Or I didn’t want to be a nag. So we’d go along peacefully for months and then he’d do something – like eat the pizza I’d been working hard for – and I’d explode like Mount Vesuvius. He’d be totally dumbstruck as I’d be mentioning these totally insignificant incidents and he’d had no idea they had upset me. I still struggle with this sometimes, but I’ve gotten much better. In fact, I’m sure I could be called a nag at times and that’s a good thing!
