A Bunch of Good Stuff

So what’s up? Nothin’ much going on here. Just the usual. You know. Todd’s at work – he’s got major short timer’s disease, but he’s making a valiant effort; Katie’s babysitting; Taylor’s at CIY in Tennessee – kind of like church camp only much more intense. Katie’s Little Homies are going camping this afternoon through Saturday morning so Todd and I get some just us time. I think I’m going to make reservations at that new Italian restaurant we were going to eat at for our anniversary, but they were booked. Yeah. That’s a great idea.

We watched “Fools’ Gold” last night and LOVED IT! The chemistry between Kate Hudson and Matthew McConnohotty is nearly palpable. It had everything I love in a movie. Adventure, romance, humor, an exotic location and even a bit of history. Well, made up history, but still.

The prude that I am was a little disappointed at a flash of anonymous boobies. It’s PG-13, for cryin’ out loud. It was a quick flash, but so very unnecessary. It reminded me of when I was in 8th grade and my AT group went into Hollywood to see Romeo and Juliet at Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Really cool experience, but the boys in the group were thrilled when Olivia Hussey jumped out of bed, baring her chest. (But really, what do you expect with a name like Hussey?) The girls were just embarrassed. And a little envious. Or maybe that was just me.

OH! Have I told you we actually have a Sonic AND a real Starbucks with a drive through now? Maybe two miles from the house, if that. The only problem with the Sonic is it’s such a novelty up here that they have to have traffic managers with walkie talkies directing cars who are waiting for the next available slot. It’s totally insane. I mean, I love Sonic and all – you know I do – but it’s not THAT great.

Last Sunday after Youth Group a bunch of the older kids went to Sonic. They parked in the lot and walked over to order and eat at the picnic tables out front. You order in the same kind of speaker box as if you’d pulled up to a slot, but you give them your name so when they come out they know where the order goes. So here’s the conversation with the Sonic chick and my son:

SC: What’s your name?

T: Taylor.

SC: What is it?

T: Taylor.

SC: Tyler?

T: Taylor.

SC: What was that?

T: Billy.

SC: Billy?

T: Yup.

This is the top of the swimsuit I bought for Hawaii the other day. I consider it was a good day because I didn’t cry in the dressing room. Didn’t even feel the urge. I certainly don’t like the way I look in a swimsuit. Heck, I didn’t like it when I was 40 pounds lighter. But it is what it is so there’s no sense getting depressed about it. But what thrilled me was the fact it’s just a normal top and it just happens to hide both my mastectomy scar (my left mastectomy scar is pretty high up) and my port scar. I also got two different bottoms – red regular bottoms and a coral SwimMini.

This morning I found a great deal on plane reservations for my parents to come up for Thanksgiving. So I called Mom and we booked those babies before they went away. Mom and Dad actually get in on my 43rd birthday. I think we’ll celebrate with a chocolate cake and 29 candles. It’s just been the four of us for the last two Thanksgivings so we’re really looking forward to having some family to help us celebrate.

All this goodness leads me to today’s verse.

If you, then, though you are evil,
know how to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will your Father in heaven give
good gifts to those who ask him!

Thanks for the review of Fool’s Gold. I’ve been wondering if it would be worth it to see it.I’m with you on the unnecessary shots and words in movies too. I had to laugh about Sonic being such a novelty, living down here in the land of Sonics everywhere..too funny about the name thing too.Lovely verse today!

i love the swimsuit top! That is so crazy that your sonic is that crowded. There’s one close to us and it’s never very busy. I’m not a huge fan of the place because they mess up our orders, but their cherry limeade is good stuff!!!Taylor’s conversation with the sonic chick cracked me up.

Yep, Sonic will be a big novelty because it just doesn’t exist up here. That Sonic will be getting a bunch of Jersey refugees. I get my Sonic fix when I go to Williamsburg, VA and I will be doing that next week. What I really want is an In and Out and really GOOD bbq, lol. When are you leaving for Hawaii? And whose watching Sookie?

Yum, Italian fooooood!Fools Gold looks good, Kate Hudson shows her boobies? Does she have boobies to show?? lol. I am so out of the Sonic loop. There’s one about 10 minutes from me and I’ve never been! Yep, never!Billy, LOL! Funny!Love the bathing suit! Thanksgiving will be here before we know it, sounds like it will be fun time.

We just went to our SPANKIN’ new Sonic for lunch yesterday. Same deal…walkie talkies and all that. I don’t suppose it was because it was HAPPY HOUR (half price slushies) and 185 million degrees in the shade…Anyway, FAB swimsuit top. Love the print. Italian, always a romantic choice.Loved your McConnohotty comment, lol! But BOO HISS on the courtesy boob shots. Grrr.Great verse for the day, too!

Suzanne – I’m thrilled you came to visit!Monnik – I always get an order of Cheddar Peppers. Only 5 WW points!Amy – We’re going to CA for Christmas and I WILL be getting In-N-Out, I guar-un-tee! We leave on July 12 for Hawaii. A college kid from church is going to stay here and watch Sookie while we’re gone.Deb – They’re not Kate Hudson boobs. They’re non-character, just some chick boobs.Becky – “McConnohotty” is courtesy of my only female lab technician back in my chemo days.

Oh my gosh! I had the same experience with that Roneo and Juliet movie! And I love Sonic tater tots. I get them every time we go to Oklahoma.

Love the swimsuit top. I’ll have to look for something similar…I’ve quit worrying about the port scar, it shows so much. But it would be nice to have a swimsuit that covers!

Super cute swimsuit!”McConnohotty” — just slays me! But honestly, I think he’s an airhead, which made him a perfect match for Sandra Bullock, the only other actress that irritates me more than Cameron Diaz. Here’s my rule of thumb on gratuitous boobage: I’ve got two of my own. If I want to see some, I’ll take off my top and go to town. One big reason why I don’t waste much $$$ at the movies these days. Am I hard to please? Yes, I admit it. 🙂

The swimsuit is very pretty :-)I haven’t seen “Fool’s Gold”, but thought they were adorable in “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days”.I nearly kissed the ground when our drivethru Starbucks was completed! To a mommy driving carpool in her jammies, this was a piece of heaven.

I remember watching the previews for Fool’s Gold in theatres and thinking “meh”. It didn’t appeal to me, though K & M are too cute together.Love the tankini, it’s very pretty. I’m so envious of your trip to Hawaii.I live in Chicago & have never been to a Sonic. I feel so deprived here…

  14. Jenster on June 27, 2008 at 7:57 am

Barrie – my son is a tator tot guy and my daughter is a chili cheese fry gal. lolPJ – I love LandsEnd. They’re pricey, but they’re so well made and fit nicely.GGG – I liked MM until I started seeing him in interviews and you’re right. He is an airhead. But I do enjoy him in most his movies. And we NEVER go to the movies anymore.S4J – I’m rubber, you’re glue…CMommy – We have a Starbuck’s in Target, but I was over the moon when I saw them building a stand alone with a drive through! Though I’ve only been once – yesterday – and we didn’t drive through. hahaHis Girl – I’m looking forward to a busy summer for two reasons. 1 – it will be fun. And 2 – it will make it October sooner!!Stacy – Just wait. Sonic will come to Chicago eventually. I’m sure of it! And I really recommend renting Fool’s Gold. It’s just a fun movie.

You are the first person I’ve ever heard make ref. to the irony of Olivia Hussey’s name regarding that scene! We think alike.
