Beds, Old Wood, Pit Arm Hair and a Black Sheep
BEDS
Last week I was on my way to meet my friend, Cristie, for lunch when Todd called. The words he said were enough to instill fear in even the stoutest of hearts.
I’m about to make an executive decision and you’re not going to like it. But I think you’ll eventually love me for it.
What do you say to that? All I could think of was a very hesitant, “okaaaay…”
Our original plan had been to move Taylor’s futon down to the basement, move the guest bed into his room and then purchase a new guest bed. While he was in the mattress store, however, he was struck with a case of momentary brilliance. Instead of buying a new guest bed he bought a new bed for us. And not just any bed. A Tempur-Pedic with the elevating head, feet and a massage feature.
He was right. I didn’t like the decision because it’s a lot of money. He was also right, though, that after one night of sleeping on it I love him for it. The next morning was the first morning in as long as I can remember that my hips and lower back didn’t hurt. And I’ve gone more than a week, now, without the pain I had come to expect.
The jury is still out on the elevating and massage features – just seem like extra nonsense to me. I don’t let that stop me from using them, though!
OLD WOOD AND PIT ARM* HAIR
Now that I’m making my own money I have to decide what to do with it. It’s not a fortune I’m making and it’s fixin’ (I’m embracing my Southern roots) to be even less because I will be going to two days a week. But it’s my money and I can do whatever I want with it.
Here’s my dilemma. I want an old red barn door or old red gate for over my sofa in the living room and then I plan to hang black and white photos I’ve taken of barns on it. Todd can’t imagine why I would want to put scrap wood in a nice room. Now that I have my own money I can buy the perfect piece when I find it without any guilt. And not just a junky section of a demolished structure, but any decorating pieces for the house.
I also want to have laser hair removal on my underarms. Since I had lymph nodes removed with my mastectomy two-and-a-half years ago I can’t ever shave the left underarm so I use Veet. I find it to be a great inconvenience and would like to just get the hair removed permanently so I don’t have to worry about it. Right now I’d fit in great on the Riviera, except I’d be wearing a bathing suit complete with top and full coverage bottom.
What to do, what to do…
BLACK SHEEP
I’m sure by now you all have heard of the familial link between Dick Cheney and Barack Obama. Yesterday morning on Good Morning America Chris Cuomo said that would make Dick Cheney the black sheep of the family. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
*****
*I do realize “pit arm” is not an actual word. When I was little I always got my words mixed up and said “pit arm” instead of “arm pit”.
Maybe it’s because I’m not quite awake and it’s foggy out…but I didn’t even think twice about your use of the word “pit arm”!!! :)The bed sounds divine!!!!! Gotta love a man who makes a “foolish” purchase like that!! LOL!!And honey..spend that money any way you want…get that pit arm hair lasered, tazered..get it gone!! I have the same prob with my right arm (27 lymph nodes gone)…I still struggle but honestly not much hair really grows there anymore so that’s good!!I LOVE the idea of the old barn door over the sofa…you have my heart when it comes to decor. I love salvage pieces, roughed up pieces, and putting pieces that “don’t belong” in a room like the lr or dr…even the bedroom. If it speaks to your heart..follow that bliss girlfriend!!!
I had laser on my upper lip because my family tree has lots of hairy Italian women in it. Seriously HAIR-Y.Anyway, I think I had to go like 3 times and ta-dah! No more lip hair. I’d love to do my arm pits AND my legs, but it’s so expensive. OTOH never having to shave again is truly tempting.
Laser hair removal is a pricey process but it sounds like it would fit the bill in your case. I’d love to have that done on my upper lip because I’m so sick of waxing and the pain it brings. It’s a shame I can’t get my eyebrows lasered, at least I won’t look like Bert of the unibrow :o).
I’m so jealous over the Temper-pedic bed! I’ve thought of getting one, but I just can’t right now. Congrats on being pain-free :DAs for the barn, I’m sure Todd just can’t visualize where you’re going with it. But I’m also sure it’ll look fabulous!
Our brains must be connected because just this morning I was thinking that I really want to laser remove all the hair in places I don’t want it but it is so expensive! Two of my neighbors did it last year and were so happy with the results that it makes it very tempting. Someday I will, maybe it will become less expensive soon?
I can be quite dense at times, but why can’t you shave under your arm?? I know it is because of the lymph node thing, but why? Sorry, I have an incessant need to understand EVERYTHING! I don’t know what Veet is either, but sounds like Deet, which I believe is bug spray. LOLThe bed was a fabulous executive decision! Whenever I get those kinds of calls, it’s usually because he decided to get Coke instead of Pepsi because it was on sale!I’m not commenting on the barn door. 😛
BEDS: Indulge in that massage feature! In fact, take a turn for me, please. ;-)OLD WOOD AND PIT ARM HAIR: Both are great ideas. I’d do the arm hair first…’cause you got to lift those arms to hang the pictures. 😉 Oh wait, that’s what we have men for. LOL!BLACK SHEEP: HAHAHAHAHA!!
I did one treatment of laser hair removal under my arms but haven’t gone back because I didn’t realize it would be $100 per treatment and I would need 4-6. It was great for the 6 weeks I had no underarm hair.
Sherry – I loved not having hair under my arms during chemo. That was much better than not having hair on my head. And thanks for the affirmation on the barn door!Rosie – I would love to do laser on my lip and eyebrows. But waxing will have to do for now.Aim – I hear ya!Dev – He may be a great guy, but he lacks vision.Tori – I know I have a great reason to get my underarms done, but I also know I’m going to want to keep going. The preschool gig only pays so much, though.Jodi – Removing lymph nodes makes you susceptible to lymphedema and infections. Veet is like Nair but it doesn’t irritate my skin. Who knows? Maybe Veet is just Deet in a different package?Shauna – Love the way you think!!
Slackermommy – I’m sure I’ll need at least that many treatments. My head isn’t the only place I have thick hair!
I want a Tempur-Pedic bed as well but DH is convinced they will hold body heat and he will be too hot to sleep. I love your interior decorating ideas! When you get that all done, I cannot wait to see some pics 🙂
oooh! Lucky you and your temper-pedic bed! I envy you. I can visualize the barn door decor, love it!As for the pit arm hair, arm pit hair, whatever, sounds like a good idea to me. Shaving or waxing is a pain!
Jen – Tell him I haven’t had one night sweat since we got the bed, either. In fact, I think it’s cooler than the traditional mattress.I promise to post pictures whenever my vision comes to fruition. Could be a while, though.Deb – I’m going to look into the laser hair removal thing next week.
I have a barn door on my….barn! It’s very cool….I was just trimming matted hair from one of our dog’s armpits tonite. My daughter thought it was gross, but I said if she had matted armpit hair, she’d want it cut out too. She got a sneaky look on her face and responded by saying, How do you know I don’t? That was so gross I’ve vowed never to discuss armpit hair with anyone ever again….
Oh, I would TOTALLY take advantage of that massage feature! That sounds awesome.
Barb – Is your barn door red? I am happy to be able to say my armpit hair is NOT matted. But that’s all I’ll say about it since you’re not discussing such matters with anyone ever again.Swishy – Katie and I put the head up, the feet up, turned on the massage feature and giggled like school girls the first night we had it. It is kinda fun.

Enjoy your folks’ visit, and I say “go for it” with the mad money. If you want laser removal, I think it’s a grand idea. I had a friend do it and she’s had absolutely no regrets.xxxooogretchen
That’s awesome about the cool new bed! Yay for comfortable sleep! (Good beds are always worth investing in, considering that people spend upwards of 1/3 of their lives in them.)LOL on the Riviera thing! My dad told a funny story about his days as a Military kid in Paraguay, when he and his older brother would go to the beach to meet girls. His brother saw a beautiful Paraguayan teenage girl lying on the beach, and decided to go meet her. When he got up close, he saw that she was twirling her long dark hair…which was flowing from her armpits. Needless to say, he quickly nixed that idea!On that note, I say…laser away unwanted hair.Love the barn door idea!
Twirling armpit hair? *gag*I would love to do laser hair removal also but mostly on my so called bikini line. To never have to worry about that again would be grand! I also like salvage pieces but I would never really know how to incorporate them into my home. I’d be more traditional than country but I love your idea. Tell Todd he’ll love it when you’re done. Or that you are making an executive decision ;)CindyS
i’m jealous of your new bed
