Catching Up and Upcoming Posts

I started my training in earnest this morning. I finally feel well enough to do something more strenuous than blowing my nose and throwing away the Kleenex. Though I did lose two pounds last week. I was going to ask my scientist friend, Kris, what the molecular make up of snot is and how to determine the density in direct proportion to mass quantity which resulted in reducing my overall weight by two pounds, but I thought she’d enjoy it just a little too much so I changed my mind.

Today I walked 2.5 miles on the treadmill in just under 50 minutes. Not a great time or distance, but I’m happy with it. Especially because I think I should be able to call it an even 3 miles as the last half a mile I walked with my legs crossed. No easy feat, that. Note to self. Remember to go potty before you start your training.

Not only am I in training now, but I’m also making better food choices. Don’t you dare say I’m on a diet. I am NOT on a diet. Like New Year’s Resolutions, diets are another set up for failure. I consider the “D” word as bad as the “E” word. I am simply choosing to eat healthier foods as advised to me by the powers that be at Weight Watchers.

Tonight I’m getting together with three other neighbors – Kris, Sherri and Laura – for our first weekly… something or other. I don’t think we’ve actually named it. But we’re going to meet, weigh ourselves (with no one else seeing), drink water or maybe even tea, hold each other accountable and be encouraging. I so want to take a cheese ball or dip as bad as Kris wants to serve wine or martinis. But that would defeat our purpose. We’re setting aside 30 minutes once a week. Our “business” should take about 10, leaving another 20 to just shoot the breeze.

After walking this morning, I started going through some of our boxes in the basement. I’m happy to say there are now four less boxes. Never mind two of the boxes were already empty. They are now in the designated empty boxes section, making the boxes-full-of-who-knows-what section looking a little better.

Tomorrow is PJ day at the preschool. I love the thought of wearing my jammies to work. I just have to remember to take a change of clothing so I don’t have to wear my jammies into the restaurant when I meet Todd for lunch afterwards.

There are those among you who continue to plague me about a story I mentioned in passing on another blog. The Lake Perris story. You know who you are. And while I’d rather not dredge up something I thought I had laid to rest, I’m finding it’s a bit like a decaying tooth. I can try to ignore it, but it just keeps getting worse. So I will start working on the retelling of that fateful day. Mom – consider this your warning.

One more post you can look forward to is the Little Rock Race for the Cure in October of 2005. Now THAT’S a good story!

great job on the training! I LOVE your group/cheering each other on idea! I’ve been moving too. 30 minutes of SOMETHING every day. Yesterday it was a 45 minute walk. Tonight I’ll run 3 miles. Have fun at jammies day! My 4 year old had that not too long ago and she thought it was the best day EVER!

I so LOVE that you are NOT dieting!!! Way to go….and I love that you and your neighbours are holding one another accountable (plus yourselves) for NOT dieting. Love, love, love it!!!

I am so proud of you… getting healthier, cleaning out your whoknowswhatboxes, telling the lake perris story ((if it’s really that painful, you’ll have to just ignore whoever has been pestering and keep your lip zipped)), and I just can’t wait to hear the race for the cure story!pat yourself on the back, girlie! glad you’re feeling better 🙂

You’re a stinker for pulling the guilt card! I agree with HisGirl – if it’s too sketchy to tell the story – you can save it for when we get to heaven. *sags in sad deflated letdown* HOWEVER, if you’re just concerned about your mom reading stuff she shouldn’t – just email me!! *Incentive* – if you tell me your Lake Perris story, I’ll tell you something horrifying about my own self!

I have just been inspired! I keep putting off the training and continue throwing excuses out.Great “P” advice – I will be sure and remember to pee before I walk or to at least practice my crossed leg technique.Yah! Your a fellow WW! I started WW over five years ago, lost 40 pnds. 3 months later Christmas came along and WW left on an extended vacation. We met again last week. I lost 2 pnds last week and am feeling great! Let me know your progress.

Monnik – Good for you with your “training”!!Sherry – We’ll just see how much we hold each other accountable. I’m a bit skeptical. lolHis Girl & Sing4Joy – I’m enjoying your guilt, you know. I will still tell you my story and after all this build up I’m sure it will be a let down. And Mom already knows about it. She was there. lolDeb – 40 pounds! That’s fantastic!! It really is such a great program!

Have you ever had an epeephany? AKA:a great idea formulated whilst upon the pot? I think I started having them when about the only time I was sitting was for “doing my bizness”. But that’s me. I guess I was just musing about your having to go while walking on the treadmill, and…there you are. I might run faster if I thought I could reach the candy bar hanging down in front of me. 🙂 Never let it be said that I don’t like incentives. This post just sounds cheery and upbeat, and I’m so glad for you. Because it snot any fun having a cold. Yay for PJ day! Yes, don’t forget the non-pj attire for your lunch with Todd. Definite party foul. Glad about your weekly meeting with like minded trainers. (((hugs)))

I can play the guilt card just as good as the next gal……come on Jen don’t I deserve to know..c’mon I live right below the dam. We may get our water from there for all I know. Tell do tell….In all seriousness, I do not want you to tell if you are the least uncomfortable with it.Kuddos for the life-style change. You are encouraging. Blessing to you my friend.

DIET… DIE with a T. I seriously need to be more picky about my food choices. Diabetics don’t do well on a diet of trail mix and potato chips. SIGH.

  12. Lynilu on January 17, 2008 at 1:35 pm

The image of walking a half mile with your legs crossed produced a good, hearty laugh which I dearly needed today!! Thank you! I think almost all of us could be wiser in our food choices. I do well most of the time, but I have … uh … moments!!You are clearly doing better than I am at this moment! Keep it up!

I’m doing the Race for the Cure here in St. Louis in July. I realized today, that since its a race, people might run?Last time I was sick I asked Jeeves “How can one nose produce so much snot?” The first article that came up was so good it made me laugh and feel better.

You have made my day!!!! Thanks for the laugh and congrats on losing 2 lbs!

I so love you. I decided one time to get on the tread mill in my sock feet (it’s my own) and couldn’t believe the friggin burns I got on them. Goof ball.I went to my second meeting and lost 3.6 lbs but I said to the leader (cause honey, I ain’t shy) did I just lose my PMS weight? Cause I’m not doing this to lose PMS weight!!I suggested to two of my friends that we do it together and save the money but my one friend wanted to try and since I was already committed to uh, getting healthy (read gorgeously skinny) I joined also.CindyS

I may have to get this booty off the couch and join you! Especially if I’m going to describe myself (with very little evidence) as bootylicious :)Happy the laptop is working!Jill

The go potty before beginning thing is good advice. All the time I have to stop running because I just can’t hold it and should have gone before I started.

Go Jenster, Go Jenster, Go Jenster, Go! Race for the cure, YOU GO! (A cheer I just made up for you. Isn’t it great, lol?)You go girl…do this training regimin and do it well. 50 mins. on the treadmill is great!! I am very impressed. I like your idea of meeting with just a few friends to encourge each other. No pressure, no cost, just support. Very cool.I hope Jammie Day went well. Our Principal wouldn’t let us do it at our school. Too disruptive, she said. She only allows a few themes for spirit week, same old boring stuff. The kids want Jammie Day so bad.Have a great weekend.XOXO

Get strong, girl. Have fun with the PJs. Regarding my cussing (your question a few weeks back) I’m getting better! Yeah!Happy Sunday.
