Lesson Learned

Now that it’s truly winter here we’re all suffering from the dry air itch. DH bought a bottle of Gold Bond Medicated lotion and he thinks it works pretty good.

Todd would advise not to rub it in too high on the leg as it has a tendency to spread somewhat, causing certain, more tender parts to tingle more than what is considered enjoyable.

So today after my shower, wherein I gleefully shaved both the upper and lower portions of my legs whilst singing “Ain’t Misbehavin'” near to the top of my lungs, I decided to try the Gold Bond Medicated lotion because I’m tired of itching. I am happy to report that I am no longer itching. No. I’m burning. That cold kind of burn you get from BenGay. From the tops of my thighs (not too high, though) to the tips of my toes. I have that cool, minty fresh feeling one gets from swishing with Listerine as though someone spit a mouthfull all down my legs.

I choose to look at this as a learning experience and not an example of just one more idiotic episode of my life. And as such, I want to share my mistake with others in an effort to keep them from making the same mistake. I’m all about serving others…

LOL! Oh, that is terrible. If it makes you feel better, I used spray deodorant as hairspray once. That was not pleasant either. I am a chronic itchy skin sufferer and use Aveeno lotion. I have never tried Gold Bond Medicated – and now I don’t think I will.

I have a piece of good advice too. When you bend down to look under your car at a gas station, make sure a thigh-high-concrete-wall is not under your head. I have a bump and little gash on my brow bone for proof. I don’t know how I missed seeing it. Just feelin’ the pain with you sista. I guess you could call it an “idiotic episode”.

“…..as though someone spit a mouthfull all down my legs.”That’s a priceless line. And thanks for your bravery in experimenting with the stuff. I was tempted to try the Gold Bond lotion at one point when my dermatitis was acting way up and the ointment that was controlling it dried my skin up like sandpaper. Now I’m glad I never got around to trying it. I don’t think I’d want to experience that cool, minty feeling all over my body, lol. That belongs to toothpaste, mouthwash and breath mints.

Jen – Your hairspray/deoderant tale would make me feel better if I hadn’t done something similar. Once I put Act mouth rinse on a cotton ball and used it like toner on my face. Unfortunately it was right in front of Todd so I had a witness. And I don’t think the lotion would have burned if I hadn’t just shaved my legs. LOLKris – Thanks for the heads up. I think I’ll go check out her blog.April – Thanks for that bit of advice. I’ll be sure never to do that! And it was an idiotic episode – it was a learning experience.Amy – Yeah. Cool and minty is great for the breath, lousy for the skin.

I have “learning experiences” all the time. It makes me feel good to know that there is someone else out there who is as out of touch with reality as I am. 😉

I used a “refreshing foot lotion” once on my legs and it had the same tingly freezing cold minty burning feeling you are talking about. I look at it the same way you do. Now I know not to do that again.

Personally, what I got out of your story, Jen, was just a reinforcement of something I already knew: don’t live in cold places! It may be cold here in Houston right now (actually, for the past 4 weeks!), but at least I’ve never had to deal with Dry Air Itch. :)Jennifer

Hi Jenster- I find that anything with shea butter in it works well. Never tried the minty fresh Gold Bond. Don’t think I ever will either. What’s init that’s so spicy?!

I remember as a kid I liked to sneeze so I tried to make myself sneeze by getting a good snifful of laundry detergent. It hurt like hell and I never did sneeze.
