Marsha, Marsha, Marsha
Guess what I’m doing! Go ahead. Guess.
If you said “laundry” you are correct. That Sherry Lewis classic, “this is the song that never ends, it just goes on and on my friends,” is playing through my head. Because laundry is the chore that never ends. NEVER!
I need an Alice. You know, an older, unattractive, goofy woman to do the laundry, dust, vacuum, pick up, clean the kitchen, cook dinner and watch the kids. OH MY GOSH!! I AM an Alice!!
***
I have a list as long as my short arm to blog about. Not my short arm as in I have one long arm and one short one. Just that both my arms are short.
So anyway, I have all these things to blog about, but not enough time. Todd and I are leaving in the morning for Rhode Island and I have a ton of stuff to do to get ready. Like laundry. And I don’t know if it’s from the most recent surgery or if it’s because I’m just plain out of shape or if it’s residual from chemo TWO YEARS AGO – but I’m so tired in the afternoons I want to cry.
And speaking of crying – does anyone else do this? I’m feeling a bit low right now for a bunch of different reasons, most of which I’m sure I’ll end up blogging about. Anyway, I haven’t really examined these reasons in depth because I know I’ll end up crying and I don’t have time for that. So I’m going to wait until I get back from our little vacation and the kids are in school and Todd’s at work and I’ll think about why I’m feeling a little on the sad side and I’ll cry and be cleansed and feel great! It’s like I have to schedule time for my breakdown.
The reason for our little get away is a very happy one, though. Some friends of ours are getting married Monday and they asked us to come be their witnesses. So that’s going to be cool. And it will be nice to get away from everything for a few days. Heck, I’m just looking forward to having Todd all to myself in a car for six hours or so. He’ll have to talk to me then! Okay. That’s not really a problem. We just travel really well together and I find it very enjoyable. Comfortable silence for a while, good conversation for a while. The only complaint is that he may make me listen to John Denver because, you know, he’s essential.
I won’t be posting until next Wednesday (sorry Mom and Aunt Thea) and then I hope to have beautiful pictures of the New England coast for you. After that I’ll get my whine on.
And here’s a little teaser. Just some of the topics I’ll be blogging about:
Todd’s blog
Hot flashes/Night Sweats
Unveiling
Blisters
40+ models on Rachel Ray
Sunburn stripe on leg
Jenster, I totally get what you mean about scheduling a breakdown. You guys have fun on your trip (and your dress was cute, too!)That tiredness thing, I hear ya. It’s really hot here, which I know zaps me, but I also know if I have too much sugar early in the day, I crash in the afternoons. Is this the wedding with the fluffernutters?
Becky – Yes! This is the couple who’s pre-wedding reception I made the fluffernutters for.Glad you understand the scheduling thing. :o)
I’m so excited for your weekend away, Jen! And…again, the separated at birth, thing. I’ve been holding back tears for a few days, now, but I know there’ll come a time and place to let them fly. The good thing is…it’s just stuff. Life stuff. Have fun. xxooogretchen
I get the scheduling a breakdown thing too. I need to schedule one myself one of these days. I hope you have a great trip to RI. Don’t do TOO much laundry. Since it never ends, it will always be there when you get back.
Dang. Missed the memo on scheduling my break downs. No wonder I drive my hubby nuts – they just normally come out of no where but I think it’s because I’m not really in touch with my inner self. (I know she’s there but I’m a ‘tomorrow is another day’ kind of person so I don’t notice problems until I burst into tears)So, 1. Have fun! Heck, you’re alone with Todd and I’m sure he’s seen you cry in heaving sobs before – let er rip ;)2. I’m doing laundry now myself. I was on strike and then I ran out of underwear. I think Bob just went and bought more knowing I would break sooner or later.Blisters – I was wondering if your latest ‘tune-up’ had affected your skin. I now have a huge rash on my tummy and I was fine with it at first – four days in, twice as big and I’m freaking – went and bought everything I could over the counter. If not getting better by Tuesday I’ll be heading to docs.HugsCindyS
Have a great time on your little trip. It’s always good to get away. And thanks so much for making me realize that I’m an Alice too…
You’ll probably read this after you get back but I hope you had a great time. I hope you brought your own music to annoy him with. Something in the lines of Safety Dance/She Blinded Me With Science/Somebody’s Watching Me ’80s one hit wonders category, the more annoying the better, lol. Or better yet, unless he’s a fan too, the whole Duran Duran back catalog. That’ll be a guarantee to annoy the hell out of any non-fan.Laundry will always be there. I still have the same pile of laundry from a month ago, just bigger now.
Laundry the monotony never ends. In the washer, in the dryer, fold, wear, repeat. Blech!GG and I love car time traveling some place by ourselves. While we do have silences and I even read, we also have long chats and argue over music…usually he wants noise and I don’t. Long story short? I’m jealous. I’d love to get away for a weekend and have GG all to myself. *sigh* Have a good time. I’ll console myself by indulging in some reading this weekend and NO laundry.
Hi Jenster,Congrats – I’ve chosen you for a Blogger Reflection Award. Please check out my most recent post.
Jenster,((((HUGS)))) Have a fun trip, and try not to think about the sad stuff, until you get back. When you do get back, we will be here. We all feel like that at times, and you have certainly helped us enough!XOXOXO
Ohh I hope you have fun. I love going out of town alone with my husband. No laundry, you just cannot do laundry in the car.
My problem is I don’t schedule the breakdowns they just happen. A lot lately, actually. So I can completely empathize. Hope you have a great trip and look forward to reading about your exploits when you get home!
I’d examine your chocolate intake. You’re probably low and need to replenish!
Hope you have a wonderful getaway with the wedding. Been gone and have missed reading your posts.
I hope you had a great time in Little Rhody. It’s been a while since I’ve b een through there, but the last time was by train along the coast & it was absolutely gorgeous. As for laundry, I did four loads today & several more on my last day off. I caught myself thinking, “JEEZ! I just did this, didn’t I?!” As for crying, it is best done in a dark hot shower with soft music playing & the door locked. Hope you feel better. Hugs.
I know what you mean about the afternoon tiredness. I frequently have what I call a ‘sinking spell’ (the phrase is so Southern, I can’t help using it!) in the afternoon. I just want to collapse and sleep which doesn’t work well with a classroom full of third graders!
I hope you are having so much fun!!! And if you need to cry over email (or the phone!), let me know 🙂
Oh hon…I hear ya about making time for breakdown. I’ve been woring on one all summer but have to put it off until the kids are in school. Just less complicated that way.(hugs)
I vote for the sunburn stripe post first. :)Hope you are well and enjoying this time away
Laundry, the never ending saga. I’m one person and I much do it like twice a week. Ugh.Have fun on your trip Jen. I look forward to reading your adventures. And hon, you just take your breakdowns when you’re ready. Your friends will be around when you need them, so if you can’t wait, that’s okay. Hugs, Jen.
Sorry you’re feeling down.. I got through spells like that. Have a great trip though!
I’ve been looking forward to having a nervous breakdown for quite a while now. I’ve even planned the outfit I’m going to wear while being carted out screaming to the ambulance. I’m just waiting for my hair to grow a little longer first.Hope you had a lovely trip.
I read that ovarian thing linked with dementia just before my hysterectomy. I know that is on the previous post, but I just can’t catch up with everything you have written! I talk all the time about how I need an Alice. I think that would be perfect! I so love that you wrote Marsha Marsha Marsha! Love it!
Yep – girls who have chores to do have no time to cry. I think that is in the SAHM’s Guide! Have a great time on your trip Jen! Can’t wait to read all about it and all the other things you have to blog about!
Okay so I must have missed Todd’s blog at the top scratch the sun burn stripe…I vote for a post on Todd’s blog. Are you back?
What a nice dream… to have an Alice! If only… I agree with Barb Jenster – You need a dose of chocolate! =)
Jenster, keep in mind, however, that to be able to afford an Alice, the Brady’s had to give up a few modern amenities around that place…like another bathroom so their six children weren’t always fighting over the same one! You’d think an architect and his unburdened wife would have figured that into the equation…but alas, my Uncle is an architect, too, and his house has only one bathroom, and no shower! Mrs. Brady did always have time to smile graciously at everyone, so the arrangement must have worked for them. How could you NOT smile when someone else was doing the scrubbing and cooking and laundry for all those kids?..;o).
