On The Top Of The World
I’ve been singing that old Carpenter’s song all afternoon. I would deny that I’m old enough to know it, but I’ve already fessed up to my age. So yes. I was singing it word for word. The reason for this is because today has been a great day.
First of all, it’s Friday. Who doesn’t like a Friday? It means that I don’t have to get up until I’m good and ready tomorrow. It means I don’t have to get on the kids to do their homework.
Common conversation with my son after school:
Me – Hurry up and finish your homework.
Him – YOU hurry up and finish my homework.
I know I shouldn’t encourage him, but that does make me laugh. I’m creating a monster.
Second, I went to my first Ladies’ Bible Study this morning since moving. These women meet on Friday mornings in a home and they were so warm and gracious. And they had FOOD AND COFFEE! I only knew two of the ladies a little bit so I was a bit nervous. But they were nice and funny and I can’t wait to go back.
You know how sometimes you start drinking a glass of water and only after do you realize just how thirsty you really were? It was like that for me this morning. I knew I was missing the relationships I left behind in Arkansas and I always enjoyed being involved in women’s bible studies. But I had forgotten just how important both were to me. I mean, I can do my own bible study on my own – which I do. But I love the interaction of these like-minded women. It’s awesome!
The icing on the cake was an email from my “Adoring Husband” when I got home. A $50.00 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble for my birthday! WOO HOO!!! Now I really need to get those boxes of books out of the garage so I don’t end up buying something I already have.
So yeah. It’s been a good day.
Today is your birthday???HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!Ok, if I’m early then just read this again tomorrow…If I’m a day late then just pretend like you read it yesterday and forgot about it! heheheheWhat Bible study are you doing??I REALLY cracked up when I realized what the Dixie and Daisy ticker in the side bar is for!! LOLHave a great weekend!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENSTER!This is my very first time to your blog and wow, it’s your special day! 😉 I totally feel you about the kids and not encouraging them to back talk but sometimes it’s just funny and you’ve gotta laugh…But I hope you have a good day today on your special day…and can I ask? Who lives in Torrance? Cause I DO and I’m just nosy.
Er. I’d be really careful encouraging answers like that. One day it’ll come back to bite you on the..Glad you’re getting out there and socializing. It’s never good to hide at home. Says the woman who really prefers to do just that. LOL 🙂
Hey Deanna – Thanks for stopping by. Actually, my birthday is Sunday. But it IS the birthday weekend so I suppose it officially started this afternoon. lolWe’re doing the book of Ephesians by John MacArthur. I just got my book today, but so far it looks pretty good.Dylan – he’s 14 and he says these things meaning to be funny – for the most part anyway. The really bad thing is that I was the EXACT same way.And I grew up in Torrance! I graduated from South High in ’83. Did you grow up there?Amanda – I know, I know… I will say that when he’s being serious and mouthy I don’t think he’s funny!Jen
Happy birthday!!! I thought it was next week for some reason. Great gift can I have my hubby call yours, I ask for gift certificates every year and have yet to get them. 🙂 Have a great birthday weekend!! I am very glad that your Bible study is going well, it is always important to have ladies’ bonding time with church friends.
Happy Birthday Jen!! Hope you have a great weekend.I really miss my women’s Bible study that I was involved in before we moved. I have yet to get involved in another one.
HEY!!! Your birthday is also my blogiversary! LOL Ok forget that I said anything about it and I’ll come back on Sunday and say it for real…that was just practice… LOLI’ve really enjoyed the studies I’ve done in Ephesians. Beth Moore has a really good series of teaching in that book too!
That’s a great birthday present. I’m always asking my family for gift certificates for Christmas, birthday, whatever but they just don’t get my book obsession. PS ~ I’ve never gotten a gift certificate.Happy spending ~ and Happy Birthday!
Woohoo!! Someone who celebrates their birthday longer than a day. Bob and I started with the birthday weekends but since we don’t have kids they are now refered to as Cindy week and Bob week ;)Glad that you were able to get out and meet some new people. Since that is very hard for me, I think it’s wonderful in others.I wonder if I can convince my hubby to build some bookcases this weekend – meh, the downstairs bathroom is on tap.Have a wonderful birthday weekend!!CindyS
well you know this by now, but yes I grew up in Torrance and loved it so much that I stayed! LOL..I’m a Saxon girl (again you already know this) and my niece goes to North now…the school is staying in the family! ;)My 13 year old niece is a good church going girl, she’s got a good head on her shoulders and she’s really pretty…she also gets good grades in school, but I’ve got to be honest, she sucks really bad at sports, but she can clean the heck out of a house! 😉 I’m just saying, just in case…you know, later on…your son is looking for a good girl, cause I’m looking for a good boy for her when she’s older. LOL.
