Poor Ol’ Bessie’s On Her Last Leg…

… or tire, as the case may be.

We have a ’98 Dodge Grand Caravan (Bessie). She’s been a great car, even though we’ve had to rebuild the transmission twice. She has over 120,000 miles on her and, while she’s still getting us where we need to go, little things keep going wrong. So we’re in the process of looking for a new car. We haven’t had a car payment in a while and I really like it this way. But, alas, we’ll be having to make a car payment in the near future.

This is what I want –
Yeah, yeah. I know it’s unrealistic. I could only take one person at a time with me. Which, when you think about it, has its advantages. Oh. And there’s the matter of price.

The car payment I feel I’m willing to make would probably get us this –

For those of you who are too young to know what this is, it’s a Pinto. Ever heard of it??

This is what we’re seriously looking at, though. It’s a 2007 Saturn Outlook.

We won’t be doing anything for a couple of months and it’s possible we’ll change our minds before then, but as for now I’m daydreaming about a road trip in my new Ocean Mist Outlook with a sunroof. Hope it won’t end up being that Pinto afterall!

You crack me up!My husband has a little rap song he used to sing as a joke with his buddy (some words and lyrics taken from a Vanilla Ice song, “…rollin’ in my 5.0…”). Here is a snippet: I’m rollin’ in my Ford Pinto with my windows rolled down so the hair can blow.

A while ago, I wanted a new Lexus…my husband got me a cat and promptly named her Lexus!I recently wanted a new BMW…I got a Nissan Altima…meh. Maybe you should go about it different than I did – if you expect to get a Pinto, you just may get your Saturn. lol

Ah, the BMW Roadster, my dream car too–LOL.Several family members have Saturns, you can’t kill the darned things. One of the cars is 10 years old with 250,000 miles on it and it’s still running great. So by the time the Saturn is ready for the junk yard the kids will be finished with college and maybe you’ll get the BMW *grin*.

April – I’d love to hear that song! LOLJodi – He named the cat Lexus?? That’s brilliant!!!Tara – We’ve had a Saturn before and it was practically indestructable. That’s one of the big selling factors for this particular car to us. And your idea is spectacular! Katie will be close to finishing college in ten years!

One more thing, that Pinto looks like the Gremlin my BIL used to drive when he and my sister were dating. I wonder if that one has the chain steering wheel, the foot shaped gas pedal and fuzzy dice hanging from the rearview mirror. That car was gone long before they got married, thank god.

Nice pick with the Saturn! I have a sunroof in my Toyota 4Runner and I love it – that is one of it’s best features:) As a former Ford Pinto (what was Ford thinking??) driver, I say some things are worth the extra money! LOL
