Potato Post
In the same way potatoes are sometimes considered the “filler” for a meal, this little post is the filler for my blog.
Mom and Dad leave tomorrow morning for their home. *sigh* I’ll miss them and hopefully it won’t be a whole year before we get to see them again. I’ve decided I’m done with surgeries and the like so I should be able to make it down South next year. Mom has already said she wishes she could stay and hear the rest of the sermon series at church.

As of today I have two teenagers. Katie is now a teenager. Actually she won’t officially be 13 for another hour, about 4:00 Central Standard Time. But since she’s been acting like a teenager for the last several years I won’t split hairs.
We let her choose where she wanted to eat her celebratory dinner. For the last year she’s been saying the local Japanese restaurant. I’ve had Teriyaki and Tempura on my mind for the last several months. Sadly for me she changed her mind last night. We’re going to Applebee’s.
I have mixed emotions about Applebee’s. On the one hand it will be cheaper than the Japanese restaurant. On the other hand it’s not the Japanese restaurant. Back to the first hand, I do like Applebee’s. On the other hand again it’s not the Japanese restaurant. One more time with the first hand, Applebee’s is casual and family friendly. Likewise, on the other hand, we would only go to the Japanese restaurant for a special occasion and this was it.

Here’s the scoop on the Amish buggy at the car wash. While we were in Lancaster County the other day we drove by a do-it-yourself car wash and in the parking lot was a beautiful horse hooked up to an Amish buggy. I don’t know where the driver was, but it struck me as very funny. I had my camera with me, but I was driving so I couldn’t take a picture. If I was Swishy, though, I would have found a way. I want to be her when I grow up.

Another thing I wish I would have taken a picture of was a sign for a restaurant we saw on the way to Gettysburg the other day. It was for a Flapjacks Restaurant and Pub and showed a somewhat scruffy man flipping pancakes and drinking a beer. I laughed when I saw it and said, “See. I’m not the only one who drinks beer while making pancakes for breakfast.” I’M KIDDING!!!

I think that’s enough potatoes. I don’t want you all to spoil your dinner.
Maybe the Amish man was having the “do it yourself” wash…I haven’t been to Applebee’s for awhile…maybe they have something “teriyaki” on the menu..could you ask for a bottle of Kikomans?? Enjoy the birthday dinner anyway…turning 13 is a big deal!Hope your parents have a safe trip home…I love that you have flapjacks and beer….come on, you’re giving us some real “flavour” here Jen!! 🙂
LOL. LOL!My dad once passed a restaurant called “Squat&Gobble”. It didn’t need a picture, because the name of the place conjured up some strange mental images of it’s own.
It sounds like you’ve had a wonderful visit, Jen. And you’ve got two teenagers now?! Oh, the joys 🙂
I’m always a bit blue when visiting family departs. My Beanie will be 21 on Sunday which I can hardly believe. Anyway, happy birthday to Katie!! We do the same thing with birthday dinner in our house too. We’ve been walking out the door and they’ve changed their minds. Messes with your head I tell you.
I hope you all have a fun b-day dinner. 13-a milestone! Nice post. That would’ve been a good pic but glad you focused on the road. One of the first things police do after an accident after making sure your alright is check the cell phone to see if you were on it.Good thing they don’t have a way to see if I am applying lipstick…unless of course the lipstick happens to be in a big wide streak across my nose, over eyes and forehead and then stuck into my head..that would not be a good thing. 🙂
Happy Birthday to Katie! Aw! would have loved to seen a pic of an Amish buggy in a car wash. That could have made it into Readers Digest photos. Bummer on the Japanese Restaurant, I’m not too thrilled with Applebees myself… sounds like Katie needs some subtle convincing?
I have a Katie, too! Love those Katie’s! They’re almost always full of spunk and bite 🙂 (Name of a great book I’m reading about writing…) Hope you have a fun dinner together. And happy 13th Katie. You have a smart, funny mom.
You are so cute!!! At least you won’t kill yourself one day plowing into a median while you’re trying to take a picture of some guy picking his nose 🙂
I’m like you. I have trouble taking pictures while driving, but I know so many who do. How??? I have a question about the horse and buggy … shere they both clean, damp or waxy looking??? :)(:
Happy birthday to Katie! Wow – 2 teenagers. I don’t envy you. One is plenty for me. I still have 3 years to go before my other one turns 13, thank the lord!
Happy Birthday to your daughter!
Oh, I hope Katie had a great birthday! Applebees is boring, but they do have that Weight Watchers menu. The WW onion soup is so tasty that I think they’re wrong to count only 3 points for it…Pancakes and beer. Wow. That kind of grosses me out. Now pancakes and a bloody mary? Maybe. 🙂
Back in my wayward youth I consumed lots of beer at a variety of bars and then went for pancakes at IHOP after last call, so putting the two together in one building seems like a good idea to me.
What’s a Swishy?
Beer with breakfast…hmmmm….I’m thinking that would put me right back to bed instead of giving me the get-up-and-go I so desperately need in the mornings. 😉
