The Day After
How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? Ours was very pleasant. There was no Guitar Hero III and no Live Free or Die Hard, but it was a nice day nonetheless.
Katie and I decided we should eat in the dining room since we eat at the little table for our regular dinners. As you can see, I wasn’t exaggerating when I said the table needed to be dusted. Even though we were covering it with a table cloth, I didn’t want the little dust particles to scratch the table. So Katie wiped it down and set the table.
Here’s the spread – minus the rolls – for the four of us. Ridiculous, no??
Can’t see much of a difference, can you?
Still, I’m not complaining because it was all delicious, if I do say so myself. Which I do. I actually like cooking a big meal like this. I do not, however, enjoy the cleaning. Then I remember the reason I had kids and the world tips back properly onto its axis.
And here’s a picture of my uninhabitable living room. I should probably be going through the boxes today, but I don’t see that happening. It’s 12:30, I’m still in my jammies, I’ve been reading and now playing on the computer.
Katie’s been on a pancake making kick. And she’s pretty darned good at it, too. So this morning she asked if we wanted her to make us pancakes. Todd told her that if we eat pancakes every day it will make our butts bigger. To which I replied, “Very true. That’s why I’m having pie with whipped cream for breakfast. So my butt won’t get bigger.”
And tonight is the hockey game. The Phantoms (Philadelphia’s AHL team) versus the Hershey Bears – apparently a big rival. You know what that means (she says while rubbing her hands together in glee)! The probability of fights!!
“Then I remember the reason I had kids and the world tips back properly onto its axis.”So true! I thank my lucky stars that my kids are old enough to do the dishes now.I had pie with whipped cream for breakfast too. It was delicious!!!
“…I’m having pie with whipped cream for breakfast.”Jenster, I nearly wept when I read this. I KNEW you were a kindred spirit. ;-)I can’t wait for when my kids are old enough to do the dishes. It’ll be one less thing for my hubby to do. LOL! Kidding. Kinda. He often does the supper cleanup because by that time I’m “dished” out. Your T-Day meal looks wonderful and it appears you have LOTS of leftovers. Enjoy!
Take the furniture out and add a bunch of dust, plastic on the walls and windows (pre-drywall) and batts of insulation laying on the floor, and you have my living room. So I feel your pain! I’m on a pie/whipped cream marathon–building up my fat stores for the hard winter ahead…
Your spread looks delicious. I had cheesecake for breakfast and it was delicious! I had a turkey sandwich for lunch and will more than likely have turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and cranberry sauce for dinner and that will be the end of the leftovers (except for the frog eye salad. That’s breakfast tomorrow).
hahaha! I had leftover birthday cake for breakfast! Love it!
Pie for breakfast sounds good. : )Sometimes when I haven’t had a chance to blog hop and I see how many posts I have to read (103 today) I almost want to just delete the lot of them and start over because I’m so overwhelmed. But then I get curious about this one or that one and start reading. You know sometimes it’s great reading a whole week in a row. Your posts this week for instance. They were what Thanksgiving is all about. From your birthday, to the dentist to Guitar whatever III to cooking everything your family wanted for Thanksgiving dinner to the blog award from Becky. I’m glad I got to read it all at once. It was great.
I didn’t have any leftover pie to eat for breakfast and I was not happy about it. I was too full to eat a piece last night and I ended up with none. Oh well, my butt doesn’t need the calories.
You guys are killing me! The last few days it’s been french fries and oatmeal cookies. I need some protein stat!!Sounds like you guys had a great day and that’s what counts. I should take some pictures of the rooms currently in renovation mode but I’m trying to keep my sobbing to a minimum.CindyS
Pie for breakfast and hockey for a late evening snack.I’m eating at your house from now on.
Isn’t pie for breakfast, the breakfast of champions?!? :)You’re such a good mama to make the things everyone loves and wanted to have…I hope the hockey game was a great evening and all you hoped for!
Looks like a very yummy spread!! I love it when kids can clean up, that is an extra bonus. Pie for breakfast is the best way to start the day. Always starts my day off with a big smile. Your home sounds like such a happy, happy place. What a good mother you are.Hope the hockey game was a lot of fun, and that you all stayed warm! XOXO
Dessert for breakfast…YES!!! I knew I liked you!
MMM… What a yummy looking spread! Nothing like a big piece of pumpkin pie with whipped cream for breakfast IMHO. :o)
Hi Jen, glad you had a nice Thanksgiving. The quiet, intimate dinners are the best! And if you need help getting rid of the turkey (no, I won’t stop by, although we weren’t far from Philadelphia for the holiday), email me and let me know. I have tons of recipes for getting rid of leftover meat of any sort…..ham, turkey, chicken, it’s all interchangeable! Good luck with the Christmas decorations! Katie
How funny! We had pumpkin pie for breakfast one morning, and then on evening had pie for the main dish, followed by the dessert, a big juicy hamburger!! Life is very good, isn’t it!?
It looks like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving – I’m glad. We did too. Take care. Kellan
