The Play is the Thing
Friday night was Katie’s theatrical debut in the very funny play Lagooned. She played the jogger and did a great job. She can jog like nobody’s business! A couple times all she did was trot across the stage saying, “One, two. One, two.” But the best was when the smelly old guy who had been marooned on the island for ever got a little close and told her he was lonely:
She smacked him with the boogie board for getting fresh. Todd and Taylor gave each other knuckles over that one.
Here’s the entire cast applauding the directors (teachers):
And you know me and architecture. I LOVE it! The play was at the 8th grade center – the oldest school in the district. Look at the embellishments:
Todd picked out these beautiful roses for our little thespian:
Lucky for me she thinks her room is too messy for them (and she would be right) so I get to enjoy them in my entry way.
After the play I took Katie, her friend Shelby, Taylor and Kristen to a local diner with the most glorious desserts. And this time Katie reminded me to get pictures BEFORE we ate them!

Peanut Butter Cup Cake:

She has caught the acting bug and can’t wait to try out for next year’s play. They don’t do musicals until high school and she’s already excited about that. She just bought the soundtrack to Wicked and is hoping the high school puts that one on in a few years.
Speaking of Wicked, she’s decided to save her money until she has enough to pay for her own Broadway ticket – I have to pay my own way. What I just told her, however, is that she and I are going to go for her birthday in October. Not that I want to go. I mean, why would I want to spend a couple days in New York City and take in a Broadway musical? But I’ll do it for her. Because that’s the kind of selfless mom I am. *sigh* The things I do for my children…
I am starving and those pictures are not helping! I need to eat something.I’m glad the play went well. Do you get as nervous as I do when your child is in the play???? I think most of the time I am so much more nervous than my kids are!
How fun, I’m glad she had such a great time performing! Those desserts just look WAY too good!! Yum!!
You are a giver, Jenster…you make supreme sacrifices for your children, lol. Wicked (which I hear was really awesome, seeing as my niece and SIL went to see twice). You’re blessed to have a girl to do this fun stuff with…my boys all rolled their eyes when I requested Enchanted again the other night (though Judah loves whirling around with me as I dance to all the musical scores in it).Good job in the play, Katie!Okay, and those desserts…I’m ready to lick the computer screen they look so real and so delicious!
The fresh smelly guy looks like he was stranded in the 80’s LOLDesserts look so yummy!Love broadway! I’ve been wanting to see Wicked. It’s showing at the Pantages in LA. I’m dying to see Mamma Mia.
Really, what needs to happen is, you need to buy a sad girl in the swamp a ticket and tell Katie it’s outreach. Start them young Jen, start them young.
Looks like Katie was enjoying every moment…there’s nothing as heart-warming as watching your children on stage — no matter what they are doing (acting, singing, dancing, band…). Those cakes are making me drool…and I think I gained 10 pounds just looking at them!!!As for you…well say no more…I think you will make the ultimate sacrifice to spend a few days in NYC with your daughter — it’s the least you can do!!! 😉
RG – Those cakes are so spongy and light that you can eat a big, honkin’ piece and THEN realize it was probably too much. LOLI was very excited, but not nervous. Maybe because she only had four quick scenes. I don’t know…Kate – I’m glad she enjoyed it, too. :o)Becky – I have yet to see Enchanted. How sad is that??And why don’t you just come for a visit. Then I’ll take you to the diner and let you pick out whatever cake you want! lolDeb – I saw Ain’t Misbehavin’ at the Pantages eons ago. And some friends of mine and I were going to go see Mama Mia here in Philly in July, but I’ll be in Hawaii. Guess I’ll see the movie.S4J – I’ll tell her to keep saving her money…Sherry – Yes. It is the least I can do. :o)
Oh those desserts look delicious.Once upon a time, my college did The Pajama Game and I had the line of ooohhh fresh, slap. It was fun fake slapping a guy in the dark. 🙂
Ah, screw starbucks, we are meeting at that DINER next time ;)I am so glad she enjoys this. It is so important for kids to have things they enjoy and are really in to.Wicked is fantastic. I saw it twice-once on Broadway and once here-not in my office, but in a theater-but you knew that.
What a fun event. I doubt a trip to New York can compare;)
Oh, I am DROOLING over that Oreo cake!!!
What a fun night! And I just about starting crying (I know, I know…I’m a sap) when I saw the roses. “Santa” brings some for Little Bit for Christmas every year. Congrats to your thespian!!! So glad she has something she can be passionate about!
oh my gosh those cakes look good. between staring at those and listening to my cube neighbor eat cheetos, it’s very hard to stick with my healthy eating plan.
First of all … your motherly dedication takes my breath away. Oh, that’s because I’m laughing all the air out of my body! giggle!!Good for her … the play, her aspirations, all of it! Yay, Katie!!And I have to know … were the kids rolling their eyes as you were taking pictures of the cake? Mine do that when I’m taking “unusual” pictures, and they’re old enough to know better! It all sound like a marvelous time! I miss having kids in school. I loved going to those events. You’re very, very lucky, you know.
Oh, ‘scuse me while I wipe the drool off the keyboard. *smacks lips, wipes chin*Congrats to Katie on a job well done! Poor Mamma, though, having to go to New York and take in a Broadway musical. Life is just sometimes so hard, isn’t it? I feel yer pain…er, I wish I COULD feel your pain. 😉
Wow, big congrats for her!! Those desserts look wonderful, I hope they tasted that good too. I want to see Wicked so bad. I have heard that it would be worth it for her to save. I love musicals but have never been to NY. Next goal.I am gonna go eat some ice cream now 🙂
Jen,She looks so cute on stage! I am glad she has the acting bug, as you know it has been in this house for YEARS. I love it.Go see Wicked. She will love it and so will you. I got great room rates on priceline. Right on Times Square. Also, did you ever eat at the Stardust Diner? That is where aspiring actors/actresses work and they perform during the meals. The girls loved it there so much. By far Wicked was their favorite, ever.Love those deserts. What a great mom you are.XOXXO
Yum, Yum, and YUM again!!!!!!!SO glad that the play was a success!!!! And that your daughter loved it so much. Congrats to her!!
Go Katie! I started my love affair of theater in junior high. I was in plays all through school and ended up directing a couple of things with my church youth group a few years ago, Godspell and Welcome Matt! based on Matthew’s gospel. It’s a great creative outlet and you make great friends. I loved everything about it. Go Katie! (again)
take me! take me! take me!
