What Day Is It??
Sookie has turned our world upside down. What a big surprise. She’s a very good puppy, though! The vet figures her at somewhere between three and four months so we’ve decided to make her birthday December 15. Todd thinks we should make her birthday December 11th since that’s my mom’s birthday. I suppose I should talk to mom about that. She might be offended. Then again, she might like sharing her birthday with her youngest granddaughter.
She does have a parasite – very common with shelter dogs. The problem is we can’t get her to take her medicine. She’s too smart. BLAST! I’d much rather have a dumb dog. Kind of like I think dumb kids are easier to raise. We didn’t do well in that department, either.
She does go to the back door when she has to “eliminate”. We had some accidents at first, but she’s already got the hang of it pretty well. I think she’s needier than either Taylor or Katie ever were. If I’m trying to clean the kitchen (HA!! ME!! Trying to clean the kitchen. That’s funny!!) she comes in and flops on the floor with a huff and then whines because I’m not paying attention to her. She will have to get over that very quick. But she’s just so stinkin’ cute I end up giving in. AND I DIDN’T WANT A DOG!!
For being so fuzzy she doesn’t hardly shed. I hope that’s the way of it forever and ever.
On a completely different note, I was listening to the radio on my way to pick up Katie. It was on a station that plays a little bit of everything and “Billy, Don’t Be A Hero” came on. I was very excited because I had that 45 when I was a kid. Such a catchy, fun sounding song. Except as I started singing with it I burst into tears. What a sad, sad song. I mean, I knew it was sad when I was a kid but it didn’t affect me like it did yesterday. Because I was just a kid.
The baby is sleeping right now (next to me) and I wonder if I can sneak away to wash my face, brush my teeth and get dressed. I would really like to take her outside in something other than my jammies.
OH!! Do you remember this post from last year? It’s that time again. Yesterday morning I got up early and made a delicious and nutritious breakfast for the kids. I haven’t brought up the subject of Taylor moving out yet, but he may be getting an actual job so I see it as a definite possibility eventually!!
Okay. I see my window of opportunity to do something other than sit by the baby swiftly closing. I’m off to throw on some clothes.
I hate it when my fingers don’t work as well as my mind! giggle!!OH, I would personally opt to not brush my teeth, dress or do something other than cuddle with the baby!! In fact, it is 10:15, and I’m still abed with the laptop and two sleeping babies beside me!!! Life is beautiful!!! LOL!!
That puppy sounds adorable. And yay for you – getting up and making the kids breakfast. I’m actually out the door before my oldest two – I holler at them to get up and make sure the boy is standing on his feet before I leave. So yeah, breakfast other than cereal or toast? Not in my house.
Ahhh Sookie has sucked you in! Our dog is so sweet…now that she’s too old to care! We had a hyper active dog years ago that wouldn’t do anything you said, she seemed smart. She was retarded. Literally. So, dumb isn’t always the way to go… lol
Dogs are pretty cute. We were trying to convince my great uncle that his wife NEEDED a dog, but he didn’t give in.I don’t think my mom ever wanted me to move out. Perhaps thats why she rarely cooked me breakfast.
Yeah, the thing about cooking deluxe breakfasts, though? Then they come to expect it, lol!I don’t do mornings well. If I can prepare it quickly it in my half-awake, fuzzy morning state and get it into the toaster oven, it’s a go. Whole grain toast, quesadillas or English Muffin sandwiches are staples around here. During cold weather I’ll go the extra mile and make hot cereal like Oatmeal. But I save the fancy, farm breakfasts for camping trips. Now if my kids did farm chores, perhaps I’d be inclined to make farm breakfasts. But see, I do this so their wives will really be able to wow them one day by offering to get up and cook big fancy breakfasts for them. 😉 I’m generous that way.
The Cult of the Puppy has completely sucked you in!!! Sookie is a smart girl to get the hang of all matters “potty” (as it is referred to at my house). Roger actually smacks the back door with his paws when he needs to go.Have you tried coating the medicine in peanut butter (if it’s in pill form only)? I actually don’t have issues with Roger because he pretty much eats anything without prompting, including his heartworm medication.Hope to see more pictures of sweet Sookie soon.
that old post was one I hadn’t read before.I am still giggling. That is SO STINKING FUNNY and I have to say, sounds just like me at home.by the way… you can only hug me in october if I DON’T GET TO YOU FIRST!!!!! S4J is not a hugger, so I’ll take TWO from the funniest, warmest, most enjoyable Jenster on the net!
I never wanted a puppy either…now BOTH of them go everywhere with me. Sookie sucked you right in…pretty soon she’s going to need a friend to keep her company when you can’t be with her. 😀
I have to laugh because that puppy now has a new mommy (you) and it is like re-living having an infant/toddler all over again. I love my Sadie but she is so demanding of my time and attention, and she is so sweet and cute, it is so hard to resist her. Plus, I don’t want to hurt her feelings!! It has only just begun, and your right, she sounds so smart!!I remember that song, Billy Don’t Be a Hero, from elementary school. I was just thinking about it the other day. It makes me so sad, when I think about it. I pray every single day for the safety of those men and women. I just wish this war would end. I just wish all war would end. Don’t we all!Take care.XOXOX
Ah, the joys of puppyhood. Addie sighs very heavily and whines when she feels as if she is being slighted. She also plops herself down in front of whatever task that I may want to do at the time. I aree-they suck you in with their cuteness. It’s insane.I wish she would relax and NOT feel like she has to follow me–since sometimes she just settles down and then I move and she looks at me like I am crazy “Do we HAVE to move again??”I can’t wait to meet her.
She is just so adorable! I don’t want a dog either, so stop making it sound okay!!ha ha ha!!
Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods…now there’s a group you don’t hear about too much anymore!! I loved that song too — even though it was “sad” ..
I saw you at Frump Mama’s blog and read the April Fools joke your dad played on you when you were in school……… I am ROFL!!!!!! That is SO FUNNY!!!
Ahhh, another one succumbs to puppies! I have not been a “dog person” until the past year and a half — and now Jack and Ranger (our in-charge Beagles) rule!I, too, remember that song — that and all the other fun singalongs from the 1970s. How low tech were we? My sister and I would put a black cassette tape recorder up to the speaker of the radio or RECORD PLAYER to record our favorite songs. Then we’d have to save up for batteries to take the tape recorder in the car with us (no tape player in the car). Fun times! VERY happy for iTunes now!
Hey Jen, I have a favor to ask you. Can you e-mail me at ameuser (at) cableone (.) net?
Sookie is so cute. You might as well give in. It’s a losing battle. I didn’t want to have any more pets, not even a dog, but our dog Tiffany has been with us for almost 18 years. She rules the house and more so in her old age. She’s family and who knows, Sookie might surprise you. You never know.
HA! My kids are on a dog-wish kick.”Mom, can we get a dog?””No.””Why?””Because I’m allergic, you’re allergic, your brothers are allergic and your dad is allergic?””But if I’m good, can I have a dog?””I already said no and told you why. Being good does not take away allergies. It’s not a question of being good. It’s about your health. And besides, your dad doesn’t like dogs.””Why?””Just because.” What I really want to say is “Because he had a weird, deprived childhood.” But I show restraint and bite my tongue.”Oh. Mom, can I have a donut?””No.””Then, can I get a puppy?”*sigh*
Oh the puppy parasite is hell. Your dog is very cute and all, but I’m never having one again.Never.*shudders with the thought of the new carpet + parasite poo.
